Setting Bigger Goals
By Amberley Snyder

Reflecting on how my life has changed and how I have grown is eye opening. In 2013, I was invited to Cheyenne, Wyoming for a big rodeo as a part of the Western Wishes Charity. This was the first time since my accident that I would be traveling on the same road I rolled my truck on only three years earlier. My mom traveled with me for this road trip and wanted to know how that morning went. I showed her the last place I ate, the last place I filled up, the last gas station I stopped at, the last place I was walking. Lastly, I showed her the span of fence where my life had completely changed.

Getting Back on the Horse (Literally)
By Amberley Snyder

Four months after my accident where I became paraplegic was the first time I got back on a horse. Friends and family all watched for the 'big moment'. As I was set down into the saddle on my rope horse, my heart sank. I couldn't feel my legs around my horse and I felt extremely unstable. I had built it up in my mind that if I got back on my horse that would be the one part of my world that wouldn't change. At that moment I realized every part of my life was different.

My Journey Into Motivational Speaking
By Amberley Snyder

We all have challenges and triumphs, ups and downs, losses and victories that make up our life story. I was faced with an obstacle where I wake up each morning and climb into a wheelchair. I haven't always had the wheelchair, but for the past years it is my way around the world. Another person may not have a challenge that is as physically obvious as mine, but it is there. Knowing that we all have these challenges and being able to relate to others who have faced adversity has been a huge influence in the growth of my story.

Giva Scholarship Winning Essay
By Malerie Pratt

Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity of receiving the Giva Scholarship and representing the Worldwide Community Ambassador Award. My goal is to become a doctor and work in under-served communities in rural and inner city areas, both in the United States and in developing countries. I am currently a first year medical student at Oregon Health and Science University, where I am actively pursuing my dreams of becoming a physician to help those in need. Thank you again for this incredible opportunity.

The following is my essay:

Because my parents raised me to be goal-oriented, it did not surprise me when my dad asked me to write my goals for the next ten years when I was only nine. My goals focused on helping people and protecting the environment. Most importantly, I wanted to build and to run orphanages in Africa.
