WHO: Project to Develop the International Patient Safety Event Taxonomy
Using Near Miss and Adverse Event Data to Develop Preventive Strategies
This final report of the World Health Organization World Alliance for Patient Safety supports the development of a taxonomy of internationally acceptable patient safety concepts to be used for the collection, coding, and classification of adverse events and near misses in health care worldwide. This taxonomy provides a mechanism in which to review, evaluate, and learn from near miss and adverse event data internationally and allow evidence based preventive strategies.
